Rider bio

While many Rookies follow in their father's racing footsteps Simon's father had a slightly unusual racing career for a Frenchman. "My dad raced in the Chinese Superbike Championship, I would go watch most of his races and he also did some motocross but just for fun. And so I asked him if I could try a PW 50 and that is how it all started. My dad won the Chinese Superbike Championship in 2001."

"I also have an elder brother that races, he is in the Moto3 World Championship," adds Simon who would like to follow his elder sibling and go even further. "My all time dream is definitely to be a MotoGP World Champion."

Fortunately for the family the brothers will both be at the same race weekends this season as his father is still a big part of his racing effort. "My dad has definitely played a huge part in my young career, he has always supported me in the good times but especially in the bad times. He still enjoys coming to my brother and I's race weekends."

In 2012 Simon had a difficult start to the year but he overcame that. "My best race ever is definitely Race two of the Rookies Cup at Assen in 2012. I was starting from the 10th spot on the grid and I did a great start. After lap 2 I was already in second place until I did a mistake and ran wide in the last turn. After my mistake I dropped back to around 10th and step-by-step I made my way through the riders and finally finished 4th, just behind the 3rd and around 5 tenths behind the winner."

Just a few weeks later a crash in Race 1 at Brno ended his season. In fact it also put him out of racing for 2012 as he recovered from arm, leg and back injuries. His determination to return to racing never wavered and he fought his way through rehabilitation so that he could again test a race bike and get back up to speed. He is determined to regain that Assen pace this season. "My expectations are to first of all be competitive in the Rookies Cup and eventually reach the top 5."

He has spent plenty of time in the gym in the last year but it is still his favourite thing to do when he is not racing. At school his favourite subject is Business and Management. His racing heroes are Casey Stoner and Marc Marquez and he knows the sort of track he prefers. "I really enjoy tracks with fast corners like Jerez and Silverstone."

"What I enjoy the most about racing is of course the feeling after a race win, but also the way you build a win with your team by setting up the bike, trying different lines during the practice sessions to find the best one possible, giving constructive feedback to your team for the setup of the bike... etc."

"The adrenaline at the start of a race is also a unique feeling that I enjoy," says Simon, something he has been too long without.
