Philipp's favourite school subjects are English and sport, when he is not on a motorcycle he enjoys riding BMX, mountainbiking, supermoto and motocross. His father Peter was a very successful Grand Prix rider and when Philipp was 5 he asked his dad for a bike. He rode Supermoto and Motocross for 5 years before he started road racing and is sure that the experience was a big help in allowing him to find the limit on a road racer. He was inspired to start racing after watching his father's racing exploits on video.
Peter Öttl won 5 Grands Prix (3 x 80cc and 2 x 125cc) between 1989 and 1996. "Of course when I watched my dad's races I was motivated to try it myself, I started riding a Yamaha PW50 when I was 5 and enjoyed it from the start."
His hero is Valentino Rossi and Philipp aims to gain the results in Rookies Cup this year that will propel him into the World Championship for 2013.
