Rider bio

Martin tells his own story of his racing career so far. "My great-grandfather represented the Czech Republic in Formula 3 and my dad drove go karts. When I was 5 years old my father took me to pocketbike racing and I liked that. On my birthday my father bought me a pocketbike. I started my racing career in 2005 on a pocketbike Blata Elite 14. I started training at the Brno circuit and trained there until I was seven."

"My first race was in September 2007 it the Championship of the Czech Republic of the pocketbike and when I was seven I won the following season in 2008. I also gained my first achievements in the European Pocketbike Championship and I started racing on Honda NSF100 in the MiniGP 50 category.

"In 2011 I won the German Championship ''ADAC Mini Bike Cup'' and gained the overall 4th place at the European Championship. In 2012 I became the European Champion, in the ''ADAC Mini Bike Cup'' I finished as the third one and I won in the Champion of the Czech Republic at the MiniGP50 category. In 2013 I won the last race of the Alpe Adria Cup in Moto 3."

The family involvement continues. "My father is my mechanic, trainer and knows all about my motorbike and he is also a rider, and my mother cooks and prepares me for the races." And it works, "My best race was in Spain in the European championship MiniGP, because I won, 7 seconds ahead of the others. And from last year, the 1st race in the Alpe Adria Championship Moto3, because I started on a totally new motorbike and I won that race."

Martin came to the Rookies Cup with a good deal of success behind him but his aims for his first year were not outlandish: "I want to be in the top 10." He missed out on that but his plans for the future are clear: "I want to go to MotoGP."

It was a tough 2014, too many mistakes and a deal of frustration. "I learnt that Red Bull Rookies Cup is so hard. I learned new tracks too, I learned working with people in english. From start It was quite hard but after some races it started to be quite easy."

"My expectations of 2015 are quite big. I want to finish in top 5 in some races and in championship I want to finish in the top 10, there are new riders but I know the tracks and bike now."

His favourite subject at school is maths and he also enjoys computer games, his heroes are Valentino Rossi and Ben Spies. Of course he might like to emulate his fellow countryman Karel Hanika, he has the same long blond curly hair and as reigning Cup holder Hanika has moved on to Moto 3 Martin has a wonderful example to follow. The pressure will be on at Brno again but at least he will be at home on the track. "I like wide and fast corners."

He is very likely to enjoy his season. "Everything is good in motorbike racing, working with the team, but the best is winning."
