Rider bio

"I attended the International Motorcycle Show in 2006," explains Gabe. "There was a mini roadracing organisation and they had a pocketbike at the booth. I asked my dad if I could try and I started racing the year after."

It didn't take long for the Californian to get into the groove. "My first ever race was the Amateur Junior class. It was a race for all the rookies on pocketbikes. I started off the race with a good start and I was 2nd for about 2 laps. After I was able to pass the leader, I lapped everyone at least once."

Less than ten years later he is now on the world stage, racing on the GP circuits of Europe. It is certainly the right direction. "I want to be a MotoGP World Champion, but most importantly I want to have fun and be great," he explains with his usual broad grin. He is going to be chasing at least some of his racing heroes: Valentino Rossi, Nicky Hayden, Colin Edwards, Jeremy McGrath, and Ricky Carmichael.

An all round sportsman as well as a racer, Gabe might be found playing american football and basketball or when he's inside, getting as close as he can to riding, playing a racing game on the Xbox. Hanging out with friends is fun and at school he continues the concentration on sport as his favourite subject is Physical Education.

At the race track he very much appreciates the family support. "My dad is a big part of my career. He is my coach, my mechanic, and my motivator."

As he moved on to full size race bikes in 2014 he has been broadening his experience. "I learned a new bike and chassis which is the RS-125 and I also learned the difference between big tracks and mini tracks."

One race he particularly likes to recall. "In July of 2014, I was racing at Miller Motorsports Park. My main competitor had plenty of overseas experience, while I had none. I had finished very close behind him in the first 3 races, but on the last race I managed to get by him on the last lap and win."

He is looking forward to the whole GP scene. "I hope to adapt to the bike and tracks very quickly and to enjoy this experience." There are certain types of circuit he particularly loves. "I like a flowing track with elevation changes because it gives me butterflies to my stomach."

With the closeness of Rookies Cup racing Gabe is bound to have a good time. "I like to have a good battle with competitors. It's better if I'm in front but even if I end up behind him it is still fun."
