Blog | Xavi Artigas winning in a perfect Austrian weekend

Xavier Artigas

Hello everyone,

First of all I want to tell you that I'm very happy with how the weekend went on the Red Bull Ring.

We arrived at the circuit on Friday with a forecast of rain, I didn't care too much because I like to ride with rain, but I preferred that it didn't rain to be able to set up the bike for the races, because neither Saturday nor Sunday was going to rain. The first time I shot at the Red Bull Ring was last year and I really liked it.

The FP1 went dry and from the first moment I found good feelings both with the bike and with the circuit. I got the 5th position.

In FP2 it was the first time we were running with rain this year and thanks to the good set-up that Santi Morralla, suspension technician, had given me, the bike was perfect and I was able to get the P1.

At Qualy it rained again but I felt comfortable and got the P2 for the starting grid.

In the first race I got to put myself first when the traffic light went out.

It was a complicated race because there were a lot of overtaking but I could be in the front positions and on the last lap I was second.

I tried to overtake the first but it was a bit far and I could not get it, I finally managed to finish in 2nd position.

In the second race I could also get in the lead as soon as I started.

As in the race on Saturday there were many overtaking moves and a large group was formed.

Three laps from the end in turn 3 I touched with another rider, I went a little long and I was 6th,. I was recovering positions in the next two laps to get second. On the last lap I was able to overtake the rider in front of me and I put myself in Turn 1 from the start of the last lap.

From there I started to push to open a gap from the riders behind me. I got it and I ended up winning the race!!!.

For me it was a perfect weekend to be able to get in the Red Bull circuit a 2nd and a 1st position and also be in the third position in the provisional classification of the championship.

Throughout the weekend the bike was perfect, thanks to Santi and Nico my mechanic for their work on the bike, Dani and Gustl for their advice and all the staff of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

In addition, to this race came my mother and my brother and they could enjoy the races and the atmosphere of the Austrian GP, I usually go only with my father.

As I was with my family we stayed one more day in Austria to enjoy the landscapes of its mountains.

From now on to think about the next race at the beginning of September at the Misano circuit.

Have a great summer and see you soon in Italy!
