Blog | Walid Soppe so close to winning at Assen

Walid Soppe Assen

Hi everyone,

I'm still a bit disappointed about last weekend in Assen. Not because of the races but because the result.

From day 1 it went well and I qualified on the first row. Unfortunately it rained on Saturday. It's not that I can't ride in the rain but I prefer to have dry because then you are more sure.

I started well and came to first position already in the beginning. I always race to win and I really wanted to do my very best for my home crowd. I had some problems and totally no grip in 'de Haarbocht' and so I crashed.

In the second race we had to deal again with the rain. I decided to take it easy in the beginning because I didn't want to crash early in the race like on Saturday. I fell back to 10th position but after half the race I get the good rhythm and was able to close the gap to the front group. I was 2 seconds per lap faster than the guys up front. I went fast through the group and was leading the race.

With just three corners to go I crashed and my race was over. I'm very disappointed because I had to win this race but I showed that I can win so I will try again in Sachsenring.

I want to thank everybody for the nice messages and the support!
See you,
