Blog | Philipp fast but out of luck in Albacete CEV

Hi All,

Last week was the 5th round of the Spanish Championship in Albacete. After my illness at the 6th round of the Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup I was healthy again. It wasn’t as hot as the last time when we had the first race in Albacete.

Last time when we where here we had some problems with the setting so our target was to make the bike set up better. When I went out for the first time I had some problems with the mapping but after a few short minutes in the Box we made a better mapping.

After the first training we made a big change on the bike. And it works perfectly and the problem from the first Albacete race was gone. But at the end of the second training the automatic mapping maker felt out. But I completed the training. After the training we tried to find the problem and to solve it.

On Saturday we had 2 qualifying sessions. In the first session we had still the problem. We tried to solve the problem but we weren’t able to do this in the training. Even at the beginning of the 2nd session. Then we solved the problem but in the afternoon it was much warmer so I couldn’t improve my lap time.

My result was not good. Just 17th place, that wasn’t that what I expected from the qualifying. But I was quiet confident and I believed in myself.

The last races where a little bit unlucky. For example: At the Sachsenring the gearbox was broken, in Brno I got ill overnight. And Albacete started very badly as well. But I was looking forward. The weekend was not over yet.

My race start was OK and I tried to push forward. In the first laps I was one of the fastest guys on the track. I did some good lap times as well. I was close to catching the leading group. But on the last lap someone crashed into my rear and my seat was broken. The engine stopped as well. So I could not finish the race. If I would have finished the race I would be 3rd overall. It was definitely a really good race but with a bad ending. For myself it was good to see that I can ride the same times as the leaders of the Spanish championship.

Now I am very motivated for the 7th round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Misano. It’s a nice track and I am quite confident to do a good job there.

See you,
