I have just come back from a fantastic trip, discovering motorsports in Morocco.
The Kymco Ipone Cup
As soon as we landed in Casablanca, we departed for Marrakech where the first race was going to take place at the Kymco Cup race track.
Luxurious Hotel and delicious spicy food, flavours of the orient... We were extremely well looked after. Before getting down to business we went out to discover the local sites.
The Jemma el Fna square
The Majorelle gardens
Sunday, time to get serious.
The races took place at the Atlas karting circuit in Marrakech with the 2 stroke engined Kymco Agility.
After a few laps to get to know the track, I explained the lines the riders should follow. Then took groups of pilots round to experience the optimal racing line.
Two sessions of free practice and two sessions of qualifying practice.
I managed the best times by far but the Kymco Ipone pilots progressed well... between 2 and 3 seconds per lap.
For the first race the grid was organised according to the qualifying times. I was in pole position and won the 10 lap race.
For the second race the grid was inverted and therefore I started the race in last position. By the end of the second lap I took and kept the advantage.
A weekend full of rich experiences where I was able to bring my contribution to the evolution of competition in Morocco. In fact those were the first ever organised motorbikes races on circuit...
After the prize ceremony, interview with the national TV channel and the number one national radio station...
The day ended with the latest Kymco 400 scooter trials with a cameraman from Hit Radio...
An experience to be remembered and relived!
Now it is back to Europe and looking forward to the Rookies Cup in Assen.
See you soon,
