Blog | Ayumu Sasaki - 佐々木歩夢 - Tells of speed and last corner drama in Jerez

Hi All,

We finished the first race in Jerez.

In the first day I had 2 Free Practices and 1 Qualifying Session. In the first practice, my setting was bad because before, in the last test of Jerez, I crashed because of a slow rider and had broken my bike completely.

Second practice was getting better but I still couldn't push hard as normal. When the QS start I couldn't find my pace until the last 5 laps. Then I could find a good pace and my position was 7th.

I wasn't happy with 7th position but I almost got back the good feeling that I had at the preseason test in Jerez.

When the race began, I messed up the start because of the big different between the Honda and the KTM.

In the middle of the race, I could ride many laps constantly so I caught the first group in the last lap. But it was too late to get the podium because it was a big group. Finally I finished 6th. I wasn't happy with my result but it was a difficult race and also I learned a lot from them. So I change my mind for the 2nd race and put my first race experience to use for the 2nd race.

In the second race, I could start as normal. But my result didn't come to me as usual. At the last corner on the last lap I entered in 3rd position but another rider got inside and slid off, taking me with him.

It was possible to go inside but the crash was definitely his fault. I know sometimes these things happen so I have to clear my mind and focus to the next race at Assen.

Thanks to the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, I learned a lot from this weekend and for now increasing my fighting spirit to the next race.

See you soon!
