Blog | Walid Soppe racing in the Junior World Championship in Valencia

Hello guys,

I would like to say I had my first ever Moto3 Junior World Championship race last weekend. The last race of the CEV calendar held in Valencia and the Dutch Racing Team gave me the opportunity to participate.

The last two years Bo Bendsneyder rode for Dutch Racing Team but because of his test with Red Bull KTM Ajo in Jerez, the team asked me to ride in Valencia. I'm very happy with the chance they gave me because I learned a lot and it was good fun to ride with this fast bike.

The weekend went quite well. Unfortunately my engine blew in the second qualifying, just before I put some new tyres for a fast laptime. I crashed, the session was over and I had to start from 26th position.

The start of Race 1 was perfect, I came in a group that fought for the points but after a few laps there was a red flag due to a crash of a rider. At the restart I had to take place at the back of the grid again.

The race distance of the second part was only nine laps but I was able to fight back to 16th place. The second race went also quite well, the lap times were fast and I learned a lot. At the end of the race I had some problems to hold the fast lap times and I lost the connection with the group. I finished the race in 19th.

After the weekend I was very exhausted but it was really worth it. In the winter I will continue training to be fit next season. I want to thank the Dutch Racing Team and Barry Veneman (KNMV) for the opportunity they gave me and I hope we will continue our collaboration.

Take care,
