Blog | Walid Soppe overcoming bad starts in Germany

Hi guys,

The Sachsenring GP was not my best weekend despite I was really looking forward to it, I like the track and expected some good results. In my first practice I had a lot of difficulties to get used to the track. I lost a lot of time in the last sector and so I lost too much speed upcoming start/ finish straight.

The second practice I improved and it went much better and I was able to compete for a
top-10 position. Unfortunately I crashed at the end of the session and so I wasn't able to hold the 'flow' in the qualification and ended in 19th position.

Just before the start of race 1 I made the biggest mistake of my life. The engine stopped accidentally and I had to start from pit-lane. I had to wait till the green light went out but it took a long time and I was far behind the field. I was really focused to reach my goal: stay on the bike, go fast without taking too much risk and finish the race. My lap times where quite good and I set my fastest lap of the weekend. I finished 17th, not the position I want but I'm happy with the race.

The second race started bad. I still have some problems to start with a Moto3 bike but in the next corners I passed a lot of riders. Unfortunately I crashed early in the race and the race was over, I'm so disappointed about it but I have to keep my head up.

For now I have some tests with the Moto3 and two races of the German championship, including our home race in Assen before we prepare for the next Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race in Brno.

Take care!
