Blog | Walid Soppe fast and in the fight at Assen and the Sachsenring

Hi guys,

Two races in a row. I like these kind of weeks. It started with my home GP in Assen.

I finished sixth in the first race, fighting for the podium the whole race. In Race 2 I finished eighteenth after a crash at the end of the race from fifth position.

I'm not really disappointed because I showed I was one of the frontrunners. Behind Öncü we had a fight for our positions so he had the opportunity to escape.

Unlike last year, this time I could pick up my bike and tried to finish the second race. My visor went off and the last lap I had to ride without so it was not really nice so directly after the finish I parked my bike against the pit wall.

Race 1 in Sachsenring was a difficult one due to some heavy rain just before the start. Despite the rain there was a lot of grip and it was not easy to find the limit. Looking back I think I could have gone a lot faster.

On Sunday it was dry and I came in a big group. Because of a lot of position changes the tyre was destroyed after a few laps and I couldn't ride fast lap times.

Directly after this second race I changed leathers and helmet to ride for the Northern European Cup. My lap time was almost a second faster and in the first corner I already took the leading position. I had to start from sixth because I could only do one lap in the qualifying of the NEC.

At the end Tim Georgi (had also a wildcard during the weekend for the Moto3 World Championship) passed alongside me and I finished second. It's my fifth podium in a row so I'm happy with that result.

Take care,
