Blog | Simon struggling to find settings and form in Assen | 2014

Hey everyone!

Assen was a difficult weekend for me with ups and downs. I was looking forward to race there again as it is a track I really enjoy and where I finished 4th in 2012.

In the first free practice, I was feeling quiet good on the bike especially in the fast corners. I ended the session in 14th position.

In the second free practice, I struggled a lot trying to improve my lap times, I wasn't quiet comfortable on the bike and whenever I tried to push, my lap times weren't improving. I ended the session in 17th.

For the qualifying, we had new tyres on and right from the start I pushed hard to follow the riders in front of me. I improved by 1.2 seconds my lap time. But once I was alone I couldn't find a good pace and I was riding around 0.5 off my best lap time. I ended up 17th on the grid.

In Race 1, it started to rain just before the start. I was confident because in Mugello I qualified 10th in the rain. But right from the start I was way too cautious and I lost the contact with the group to finish in the top 10. I rode the race in front of Binder but he overtook me on the last lap last corner. I finished the race in 11th but I was really off the leader's pace.

Race 2, I got an average start, I was around 16th in the first laps but my bike was really high in temperature and I was struggling to take the tear-of off the radiator, I kind of lost my concentration and lost the contact with the riders in front of me battling for the points. 5 riders overtook me and we then caught another small group of riders. Unfortunately I was unable to overtake any rider from my group and did the whole race behind them. It was a another disappointing race but I won't give up, I am sure that I will find a solution and show what I am really capable of doing.

Tomorrow we have our free practice sessions and qualifying in Sachsenring. I can't wait! :)

See you there!

Simon
