Blog | Simon big step forward at Silverstone

Hey everyone!

My weekend in Silverstone was a big step forward for me. In the first sessions I had to learn the track, and immediately I knew that it was a track that would suit my riding style.

In the first free practice, the conditions were tricky, with the wet tires on a nearly dry track. I finished 18th.

In the First Qualifying, I didn’t have a great feeling with the rear, I didn’t manage to do good lap times, I was quiet frustrated about that. I finished 20th

In the second qualifying, Rob (WP suspension engineer) decided to put some preload on the rear to help solve my problems from the first qualifying. Immediately I had a great feeling with the bike, the lap times where going down. Unfortunately on my last lap, I ran wide in the last corner, so my lap time for second place was cancelled. I qualified in 4th position, which I was still very happy about.

In Race 1, it started to rain on the first lap, many riders crashed out but luckily I managed to stay on my wheels. The red flag was out. For the second start we had the wet tires on, but the track was drying out very quickly, I really didn’t have a good feeling so I couldn’t fight with the leading group, I definitely have to work on that for the next races.

In Race 2, it was a great race, my start wasn’t to bad, we were 14 riders fighting for the lead, and I had so much fun battling with all these riders. In the last lap on the last chicane, I tried to brake later than usual to pass some riders, but I braked too late, went straight and crashed out…

I was quiet disappointed for crashing but I realised that I made a lot of progress since the first race in Jerez, I hope I can do even better in Assen.

See you :)
