Blog | Sean Kelly understanding what went wrong in Assen and ready for the Sachsenring

Hey everyone!

I wanted to let you guys know about my weekend at Assen, the third and fourth races of the 2017 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup!

After two great first races at Jerez, I reached the Dutch GP with lots of desire to jump back on the KTM! Although Assen isn't my strongest track, I was feeling confident to repeat my Jerez performance!

Leaving results aside, it was an important weekend as I learned something very important in which I have already started working to improve for this coming weekend, and the season.

It was an unexpected start to the weekend with a crash in the beginning of each free practice. This messed with my confidence and the pressure inside of me built up rapidly! It was really important for me to realise this in order to take instant action and work upon it. I was unable to do many laps the whole weekend and that was very unfortunate, as more experience is very necessary for me.

After little laps and fighting against myself mentally, I was clearly unable to get anywhere close to my capabilities. I had to retire in Race 1 due to a mechanical failure and gained more laps in Race 2, just finishing in P17.

We continue to learn more and more, not every weekend will go perfectly, but the important thing is to work towards our goal and never give up! We still have the rest of the season to continue progressing, learning, and enjoying!

I'm entering Sachsenring with the same mentality as after my Jerez weekend! Feeling strong and with lots of desire to get back to it!

I want to give a big thank you to the RBRC Staff, the mechanics for their amazing work, my parents and whole family, my sponsors, and all of you for supporting me!

I'll update you all after Races 5/6 from the GermanGP!
