Blog | Rory Skinner on the podium hunt in Brno

Hi everybody,

I really like the Brno circuit and was looking forward to the weekend having had 2 good races in Austria.

The free practice sessions were good and I was able to carry my pace over into qualifying but I was unable to get a clear lap so I ended the session in 8th.

Race 1: I was in with the front group of riders but at half race distance I was struggling with problems with the setup of the bike which meant I was losing time each lap to the leaders, I finished the race in 7th.

For Race 2 the weather had changed entirely from the day before, it had been raining heavily up until the MotoGP Race which meant by the time it was the Rookies Cup race the track was half wet and half dry.

We raced on wet tyres as this was the best choice for the conditions. I was able to get a good start and again was in the first group of riders for the whole race. I would have loved to have been the 4th Brit on the podium in Sunday's racing but after a great battle to the line, I narrowly missed out on a podium finishing the race in 4th position. These points have now moved me up into 6th place overall in the Championship.

The Wednesday after Brno I flew out to Portimao in Portugal for the 6th round of the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 Junior World Championship where I achieved my best qualifying position of the season in 3rd, only 0.15 from pole.

In the race I made a good start and was battling hard in the front group but on lap 12 I slid off, I tried to re-join but was forced to retire to the pits.

I am now looking forward to my next race which is the penultimate round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Misano in 2 weeks time.

See you there,
