I have had a good start to my 2017 season, taking my first win at the first race of the 2017 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Jerez and getting two top ten results in the FIM CEV Repsol Moto3 Junior World Championship.
The first round of the 2017 Rookies Cup was a mixed weekend for me. I qualified in 9th position and made a terrible start in both races. In Race 1 I was down to 11th position through the first split but I was soon able to get into a good rhythm and pass riders until I got into the front group.
I felt I could make a break from the front group. On lap 3 I fought my way into the lead and made a break from the remainder of the field.
I held the lead until lap 15 when Ogura managed to close the gap and make a pass.
We were denied the chance of a last lap battle to the flag when the race was red flagged. When I arrived in parc fermé I found out that I had won the race as the result was taken from the end of lap 14. It was really special for me, hearing my national anthem playing when I was on the top step of the podium at a MotoGP weekend!
After winning my first ever international race in Race 1 I was confident that I could again be in the front group in race two. Unfortunately, I collided with another rider and we both went down on lap two.
In the Junior World Championship I have already completed the first two rounds at Albacete and LeMans, both were difficult weekends as I had a big crash at Albacete and I had never ridden at Le Mans but I was able to finish in the top 10 in both races and I am now sitting in the top 10 of the championship.
In-between these races and training I have also been studying for and completing my exams at school.
See you all soon.
