WOW! A lot has happened since my last blog.
The MotoAmerica season kicked off at Road America, in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Road America is a crazy track with 3 very long straight aways and pretty basic corners. We ended up with 2nd in both of our Junior Cup races and a 2nd and 3rd in the Twins Cup.
After the race weekend, we headed back over to the west coast so I could get some training in and my Dad spent some time at Lee's Cycle in San Diego, CA working on my Kawasaki Ninja400 with our ninja tuner/engine builder, Jody. In the mean-time, John and Chris Ulrich's Team Hammer were working hard to improve the Suzuki SV650 Twins Cup machine.
Here I am in the lead in the Twins Cup race at Pittsburgh International Race Complex
Next, we headed back out east to Road America, for round #2 and right off the bat my bikes felt faster, I was top of both FP1 sessions by over one second.
In Junior Cup Race One I was having trouble with getting the bike being settled in the left hand turns, then I didn't totally time the draft right and ended up P2. In race #2, I made a couple adjustments and ended up P1 finally!
In the Twins Cup Race I got a good start and was able to take the lead early on, pull away, and take my first Twins Cup win by 1 second.
After Road America 2 we headed back home to Oregon and did a lot of farm work including field and cattle work... and of course physical and moto training.
Here we are working some calves in Oregon
We unfortunately had to miss the Red Bull Rookies Cup test in Austria due to problems with getting my Covid 19 test. That was a huge bummer, but we decided to rush out of Oregon and head east to Road Atlanta for MotoAmerica round 3. We got there Thursday night at 10 p.m. My Dad and Uncle Gary worked through the night and literally built me a new bike to race, finishing the bike just in time for me to head out for P1 friday a.m. at 8:30!
That weekend was quite tough for us, it was about 115 degrees Fahrenheit and I had a pretty bad case of food poisoning, but I was able to win both Junior Cup races, take over the points lead in that class, and in Twins Cup I was able to salvage a 3rd place after running off track on the last lap.
On the top of the box in Atlanta, Junior Cup Race #1
From Atlanta, we travelled straight to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the Pittsburgh International Race Complex for MotoAmerica Round 4. We had a perfect weekend in both the Junior Cup and the Twins Cup, winning all 3 races.
Here I am pulling into the Podium Presentation in Pittsburgh after our Twins Cup win!
This past weekend, we successfully got our Covid 19 tests and got on a plane to Austria. We are now in Austria for my debut in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup this weekend at the Red Bull Ring. I can't wait!!! I get to race against some of the super fast Italian and Spanish kids that I have raced in the past in Italy and Spain. My goal is to improve my times continually throughout the weekend and mix it up with these guys.
See ya there!
