Blog | Philipp good, tough Navarra weekend

Hi all,

Last weekend was the second round of the Spanish Championship in Navarra. The track in Navarra was completely new for me. On Friday I learned the track. It was very difficult to learn the track because the weather conditions changed every minute.

The first Qualifying was in the wet. The first twenty minutes were good. We always were fighting for the Top 5. But after that time I could not go any faster because the rear slides away when I open the throttle. For the second Qualifying I wanted to change the set-up a little bit but in this Qualifying it was nearly dry. So we went out with the dry setting.

The first minutes went well again, I could improve my lap times very fast but after a few laps I couldn’t go faster so I dropped back to the 16th place. I was a little bit sad.

For the warm up we changed the settings and the gearing. I worked a lot with the track map and with the data recording to be well prepared for the race.

In the warm up it was cold but after a few laps I could improve my fastest lap time from the Qualifying. So I was very motivated for the race.

In the race I had a bad start and bad first corner. I ran off the track two times. I crossed the start and finish line 21st. But than I had a great run, I passed rider after rider. But the gap to the leading group was too big. I finished the race 8th. I was very happy because I rode the speed of the leading group. That showed in that I had the 3rd fastest lap time for the race.

Now I am looking forward to Jerez for the first round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup 2012. It will not be easy to ride the two stroke KTM after riding a lot with the Moto 3 Kalex KTM.

See you
