Over this past week was the 3 day test for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Jerez, Spain.
I started the week by flying from Australia on a 24 hour flight so when I got to Spain I had a couple of days rest before the test. I arrived at the circuit on Monday where I got to pick the team clothing and gear for the year. I then had some photo shooting and a briefing about the new rules for this year.
Tuesday we had 5 sessions so I used 2 of them to run in the new engine on the bike and I used the other 3 to get lots of laps to get the feel for the bike and track and got quicker every session and got the 2nd fastest time of the day 0.08 off the fastest time.
Wednesday I got 5 sessions again and I got 3 new tyres throughout the day so I was able to do lots of laps again and play with the setting of the bike. I got the 5th fastest time of the day but on my last lap which would have been my fastest I unfortunately suffered a technical issue going into the last corner and ended up in the air fence but luckily I was not hurt and the bike had no damage either.
I then had a break on Thursday and I did more photo shooting and had another briefing. Friday was a fun day because I got to ride the bike again and we did some start simulations and I got my quickest time of the test and the 3rd fastest time overall throughout the test.
I also did an 18 lap race simulation and it was a reverse grid and I had the second fastest time of the day so I had to start 2nd from rear and I managed to go through the pack from a rolling start and pass them all and take the lead on lap 11. I led for a few laps until the second to last lap when a rider out braked themselves and hit me going into the corner, causing me to crash.
I was happy because I had good pace and was really consistent so I gained a lot of knowledge throughout the test and I am looking forward to the race on the 2nd and 3rd of May back in Jerez.
See you at the races.
