It was an awesome weekend for me in Jerez, Spain for the first round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
I had free practice 1 on Friday. I used the free practice to get used to the track as I already had a good setup for the bike from the test we did with the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at this track 3 weeks ago. I got the 4th fastest time in the session.
I then had another free practice session and a qualifying session after that. I finished 3rd in the second free practice session and qualified 2nd on the grid.
Saturday I had Race 1 it was a 16 laps around the Jerez circuit. I made an awesome start from 2nd on the grid and took the lead straight away and then was in the front group, always battling in the top three.
I stayed consistent, cool and was always attacking the whole race and had a good fight for the top step on the podium on the last lap and managed to finish 3rd in race one. I was very happy with this because it was my first podium in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and I was looking forward to some more.
Sunday I had Race 2 and I made another great start and once again hit the lead straight away. I then was in another heavy battling race for second as the leader was able to get a gap on the first few laps.
I made my way to second position and was trying to close the gap back to first but with a long straight it made it hard to because I would have to keep fighting with the other riders for second.
I was in second for most of the race until the last lap and was in the wrong position for the last corner. It was really close in the last corner with 2 riders crashing out so I was able to take third position again.
It was a great result for this weekend and I am in a good position for the championship, sitting in second position in points.
The next round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is in Assen Holland. I am now looking forward to this as I really enjoy this track and can challenge for more strong podium finishes.
