Blog | Olly Simpson bounces back to great form at the Sachsenring

G'day everyone,

Sachsenring was the third round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and was two weeks after Assen, where I dislocated my shoulder in race 1 so I spent the two weeks in between the races recovering & training my shoulder and was feeling a lot better for free practice 1 on Friday.

I spent the first few laps on the bike making sure my shoulder was okay from the crash and it felt good so I got a feeling for the bike and the track and finished the session in 7th position.

Free practice 2 I made some adjustments to the bike but did not get a good lap in so I finished 11th in the session. Straight after that was qualifying and I tried to push straight away and improved my lap time straight away and qualified .3 of a second from third place but in 9th position.

In Race 1 I made a good jump but from the first gear change the quick-shifter had broken so I had to change gears manually and lost time out of the corners so I finished in 8th place.

Race 2 was a lot better, I made an awesome start and was up to second into the first corner and was in third until someone got past me and the two leaders got away. So I was battling for third and got a 1 second lead with 8 laps to go but made a mistake around the second corner and they caught me up again.

So on the last lap I had a good battle and got into second on the penultimate corner but I went into the corner too deep and had to stand up so I finished in 5th in the race.

I am now back in Australia for 3 weeks so I can train hard and come back really strong for the last 4 rounds of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.
