Blog | Max Cook having a great August

Hi everyone,

August has been an amazing month for me. I'm off school for summer, I learnt even more at Austria and went on a training camp in Spain with Dani Ribalta and fellow Rookie, Billy Van Eerde.

The month kicked off with me going to Austria for round 5 of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Going into the weekend I was super excited to ride my KTM again as I'd just came from Sachsenring where I got my first podium and I also couldn't wait to ride the track as I had a big crash last year which put me out for both races so I really wanted redemption.

The Red Bull Ring has many long straights into very slow speed corners. As I'm one of the tallest riders in the cup I'm at a disadvantage down the straights but especially in the race I learned how hard and aggressive I can actually ride the KTM!

I was pushing my heart out for all the races and finished in P10 & P9. I'm not happy with the results but I'm really happy my performances!

I'm really excited for Misano and Aragon to finish the season because then I can take what I learned from Austria and execute it on a track with a few more corners and less straights!

As soon as I came home from Austria I then had to go to Spain for a summer training camp with Dani Ribalta and Billy Van Eerde! It was an awesome 3 days of cycling and flat track. It was a different way to how I've been training because we worked on our heart rate and only pushed up to 70% - 80% of our maximum heart rate.

My favourite part was on the final day we went flat tracking with Jack Miller, Fabio Quatararo, Marcel Schrotter, John McPhee, Tito Rabat, Hafizh Syahrin, Taka Nakagami, Ayumu Sasaki, it was amazing to ride with my childhood heroes and to be on track with them already at 16 years old it was pretty special to me!

Since then I've been training lots and I also got my final exam results back and I'm really happy with them.

I'm still working hard for Misano and can't wait to ride my bike again!

See you soon,

Max
