Blog | Makar Yurchenko Макар Юрченко fast in and out of the Rookies Cup

Hello everybody,

Some weeks ago we had our first racing weekend of 2016 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup season. It was held traditionally in Jerez at the #SpanishGP.

I was feeling strong on the bike and during the free practices I was staying in TOP-5.

Saturday's first race of the season was going very well for me as I set the fastest lap of the race. All the race I was fighting in the first group staying in first positions, but small mistake 2 laps before the finish made me lose the group - nevertheless I finished 5th.

The weather on Sunday was much warmer. I made a good start, but on the 3rd lap to avoid collision with another rider I had to go wide in turn 6. I had to give priority to another rider (what I will not do next time definitely and I will fight till the end!) - I have dropped down some positions, but soon started to climb up.

All the race I was fighting in the second group and in result I finished 7th, leading the second group. The bike was not working so well in hotter conditions on Sunday, that's why I couldn't catch the front guys. Anyway it was not so bad start of the season. Next races I will push harder to be on top.

Cannot wait to Assen for 3rd and 4th rounds in the end of June!

Along with the Red Bull Rookies Cup I am also participate in FIM Junior Moto3 this season. Last week I took part in 2nd round of FIM CEV Junior Moto3 Championship in Le Mans, France. I qualified 7th, in the race I was fighting for 5th place and set the 3rd fastest time.

I went to the gravel 2 laps to go, that's why I finished 15th, taking 1 point. It was also a great weekend with a lot of experience! I would like to thank Sokol Racetrack for the great support!

Now I am at home, preparing some documents and studying hard, as I am finishing school this month. Also I am training more and preparing for next round of FIM CEV Moto3 which will be in Motorland Aragon this week, 29th of May‬!
