Blog | Lorenzo Fellon thrilled with the first Rookies round in Jerez

Hi everyone!

It's me again, I just came home from my first Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race in Jerez, It was amazing!

Friday was a really busy day with two free practices and one qualifying session. I needed to adapt my riding style for the KTM in a short time and it was hard because I just came from a really different bike that is the Honda that I ride in ETC.

FP1 and FP2 went really good with a 9th and 8th position. I had a really good feeling on the KTM. I had a good pace and I was close to the front.

During the qualifying practice I decide to go behind Yuki Kunii and Barry Baltus that are two fast riders and I could follow them for some laps and that helped me a lot to do my lap time. At the end of the qualifying session, I finished 7th. I was happy about this result because my lap time was good and I knew that during the races I could follow the front group.

At the first race, I made quite a good start that put me in 5th position. The four guys in the front broke away and I was a group with Jason Dupasquier and Haruki Noguchi.

We've had a great fight during the whole race and at the end I crossed the finish line in 5th position. I was quite happy about this result.

For the second race my plan was to be on the podium. I made a really good start that put me from 7th on the grid to 2nd. I made a complete lap in 2nd place but I made a mistake and that made me lost two positions.

The front really broke away and we were a group of seven riders. We've had a really good battle and I enjoyed a lot.

On the last lap, Barry crashed and that gave us the opportunity to make a podium, the fight was even harder because we all knew that we could do a podium.

At the end, I crossed the line in 3rd position but the Race Direction gave me 3 seconds penalty for exceeding track limits. I was really disappointed. With the penalty, I finally finished 11th.

I will learn from my mistake and train even more to try to win in Mugello.

Thanks to all the RedBull MotoGP Rookies Cup crew for this amazing weekend.

See you soon!
