Blog | Lorenzo Fellon just missing the podium in Mugello

Hi there!

My weekend in Mugello was fantastic! The track was so nice and I enjoyed a lot riding it, moreover we had the chance to have a really nice weather during the whole weekend.

Friday was a good day for me, I didn't know the track but I didn't take to much time to feel good on it. It's a really nice track with uphills and downhills with some really fast corners but really bumpy.

In the first practice I finished 10th and in the second 11th. I was happy enough about these results because I wasn't far away from the top riders.

Between the second free practice and the qualifying we made a little adjustment on the bike and in the qualifying I was feeling so comfortable on it. I was 5 seconds faster than in the first free practice. During the whole qualifying I was in 5th position but in the last lap, two riders passed me and I finally finished in 7th position. I was happy but also disappointed to miss the second row on the grid.

In the race, I made a really bad start and also a bad first lap. I lost a lot of positions but with the big straight and the slipstreams it was easy to gain some positions. We were a really big group to fight for the second place because Carlos Tatay broke away.

I really enjoyed the race because it was so nice to fight against the others riders. I started the last lap in 2nd place but with the slipstreams I arrived in the first corner in 7th position. During the last lap I could gain some positions and at the end I finished in 5th place.

I was a little bit disappointed because we missed the podium another time and we were really close to have it. But a 5th place is really good for the championship. We're all really close in the championship so consistency is really important. Now I'm focused on the next race in Assen.

I want to say thank you to all the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup staff for all the work they do for us.

See you soon!

Lorenzo.
