Blog | Lorenzo Fellon - First ETC Race of the season in Valencia

Hello everybody!

I hope that you are all going well!

My 2019 season began two weeks ago in Valencia and It was a really good weekend for me.

I arrived with a lot of motivation and willingness to make a good result for my first race with my new team.

The weekend started well on Thursday that was a test day. I had a good feeling with the bike and with the track.
On Friday, the weekend really began with the official FP1 and FP2. I was happy after this day, because my lap time was good and my pace was also good.

Saturday, in the qualifying, I ended up the session with the best lap time of my group, and the second fastest lap time of the combined groups. I was happy about this second place on the grid, because it gave me a good opportunity to make a good start for the races.

Finally, they told that I was in pole position because the pole man had a penalty. I was really happy because it was my first pole position in my ETC career for my first race of 2019.

The first race, I made quite a good start even if I lost one position in the first laps. During the first part of the race I was in second position but a long lap penalty and three seconds penalty at the end of the race for exceeding track limits made me finish in 10th position.

The second race, I was even more motivated after my mistakes in Race 1. I made a worse start than the one I made in the first race and that made me lost a lot of positions. I managed to reach the second position but the leader made a gap on me after the battle the battle with other riders. I try to make my good pace that I had during all the weekend to catch him, but with the slipstream in the long straight we were battling with the other riders so the gap became even bigger.

I decided to focus on the battle for second place because I knew that the first place was unreachable. I made quite a big part of the race in second place leading the group but during the two last laps, one mistake made me lost positions and at the end I finished in 5th position.

I was happy about this weekend because I could show that I was fast and I will be a contender for the win of the next race but I was a little disappointed because all our work wasn't rewarded.

Now I'm focusing for the next races of the European Talent Cup championship and I will train even harder to reach the victory.
