Blog | Lorenzo Fellon chasing a podium at the Sachsenring

Hi everyone!

I hope that you're doing well,

My weekend in Sachsenring was really positive, and I learnt a lot of things.

We arrived in Sachsenring from a good weekend in Assen and with the willingness to make a podium. The weather was really nice during all the weekend.

Friday, in FP1 I got used to the track and got the feeling back with my bike on old tires. I started the practice just behind Carlos Tatay and I learnt few tips from him and it was very useful during all the weekend. I finished the Free practice 1 in 7th position.

During the FP2, I felt really confident on the bike and I managed to improve my lap times, I needed more support from the bike so I made some modifications that helped me a lot with the used tires.

For the qualifying, my goal was to start the race from the two front rows and not make the same mistake than in Assen. I felt really comfortable on the bike and I had a good feeling. For a long time during the qualifying I was 5th but in the last lap some riders took the slipstream of Tatay and passed me. At the end, I finished 9th.

I was a little bit frustrated because I wanted a best starting position, but also satisfied because I was closer to the pole position than every other races this year.

Saturday, in Race 1, I managed to make a good start and to follow the leaders during all the race.

It was a really big battle for the first place but at 4 laps of the end a red flag ended the race.

Finally, I finished at the 5th position. I was quite happy after the race because I had a good rhythm and I was fighting for the podium.

Sunday, in Race 2, I made a better start than in Race 1, so the first part of the race was easier than the first race. I managed to gain some more positions and one time I passed 2nd during the race but I made a mistake between the first and the second corner so the leader broke away.

Kunii overtook me and I tried to follow his rhythm because I knew that he had the pace to pull back the gap that we had on the leader. But, I started to have some issues with the rear grip and I was the group to fight for the 3rd place.

In the last lap, I was 3rd but in the Waterfall section, four riders overtook me in the straight so I finally finished in 7th place. I was really disappointed because I missed the podium, coming so close another time.

Now, I'm training harder to be on the podium in Spielberg.

See you guys!
