Blog | Kevin Orgis not thrilled with the first event of the season

Hey all,

Last weekend was the first event of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup 2017 in Jerez and for me it was a weekend to forget.

I arrived there with a good feeling from my last race in the Northern Europe Cup in Assen and it was nice to ride again in front of the MotoGP crowd.

The first free practice was wet and normally I've got a good feeling under wet conditions but I made a mistake and crashed already in turn 3. The bike was full of gravel and I couldn't rejoin the practice.

In second free practice I tried to push hard at the beginning to come back on the same level like the other riders but cause of a bump I had to leave the track in the fast turn 11. It was like rodeo but at the end I was laying in the dirt.

The mechanics made a very good job, so I could go out for some few laps but I had a very bad feeling for the bike after two crashes, so I was the last one on the list.

The qualifying practice I still struggled with my feeling for the bike and with position 21 I didn't have a good starting position for the race.

In the first race my start was fantastic and I was up to 8th position after the first lap. But I fought with another rider and so we lost the connection to the leading group. At the end of the race I had some problems on the brakes but I managed to run over the finish line in 12th position. Not the best result but from P21 it was quite okay.

In the second race my start was not as good as in the first race but I won some positions in the first lap. The wind was very strong and it was difficult to hold the line perfectly in some corners. In 4th lap I touched the curbstone on the inside in turn 11 and again like in FP2 I had to run out through the gravel and crashed again.

I could rejoin the race but 3 laps to go my leg hurt more and more after the crash, so I decided to enter the pit and finish this disastrous weekend.

One good thing this weekend was my live TV interview on Eurosport, which was a great experience.

In two weeks I have my next race in the NEC in Oschersleben, where I try to test and work much on myself to get better and I'm looking forward to the next Rookies Cup race in Assen. I like the track there much more than Jerez and I think I can fight again in the front.

See you,
