Blog | Jorge fast but unlucky in Brno

Hi all,

It has been a bittersweet weekend for me at Brno. Again this year, this circuit was a new track for me, and although in the free practice I was feeling a bit lost, in Q1 I managed to improve a bit and left some of the old Rookies behind me. At the end of the session the engine broke, so I had to use one of the spare bikes for Q2. There was a short time to change wheels and settings, so I want to thank the team for the good job, putting all the things together on the new bike.

In Q2 I had better grip out of the corners thanks to the changes done to the rear suspension by Santi and the WP guys, also I had better knowledge of the track and managed to get in the first row on the grid for 2nd time in the year, but this time in dry conditions.

Saturday´s race was OK, my start was not so bad (I think I was 5th or 6th at the end of the first corner) and even managed to lead the race for a while, but after that I lost places, to the back of the group. On the last lap, I was in 11th position, not very happy with it, so I gave more than everything and finished 6th, just one thousand of a second behind Lucas, was a great battle as usual.

The 2nd race on Sunday was a bit of the same, my start was OK and downhill on the first lap I was already 1st, but lap by lap lost again some positions on the straights. On lap 10, when I was fighting back from 11th to 7th position behind Willy Albert, he went a bit wide, touched the Astroturf and he fell down just in front of me, and I couldn’t avoid the crash.

I have got a broken left collarbone and the small finger in my right hand is also broken, so I don’t think I will be ready for Misano, and probably will need surgery in the collarbone.

Hope all the riders who also had problems this weekend are feeling better now (Philipp Oettl, Willi Albert….) and specially Simon Danilo, who crashed on Saturday with severe injuries, hope to see you soon back on your KTM.

See you soon,
