Blog | Jorge back in action at Aragon

Hi all,

Last weekend we went to Aragon, Spain, for the last two races of the season, I was returning from a broken collarbone injury, and it has been one of the best weekends of the year 2012.

On Friday, it was a day of plenty of rain and because of oil on the track we had a QP cancelled, thats why we only had one Free Practice and one Qualifying. In FP I finished 7th, and during QP, when I was provisionally 3rd, I had a small crash but the bike was really damaged. I was taken to the hospital for a review to see if I had broken my collarbone again, because I had a bit of pain there, but finally was allowed to continue by the doctors. The bad news was that I couldn't finish the qualifying, so I was only 16th at the end of it.

On Saturday was the first race and I was a little bit nervous but I tried to relax, and when lights went off, I pushed as much as I could to get into the front group, the pace of the pack wasn't very fast as nobody had tested in dry conditions. I managed to get into 3rd, but in the last laps, I really suffered a lot specially on the brakes due to my collarbone, it was really hurting me. At the end I think I did a good race, finishing in 7th position. The bad news was that my bicycle was stolen in the paddock, and we couldn't recover it.

On Sunday, it was amazing, I was going with my parents for breakfast, and when I entered the energy station, there, next to the fridge it was August Auinger. I said hello to him as always, and he asked me, 'Do you have a second?' and I said yes and then he told me that Red Bull wants me to continue in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, it was incredible, I couldn't believe that, I felt incredibly happy.

In the race it was more of the same, I got in to 3rd but also while I was chasing the group I set the fastest lap of the weekend, a record for the circuit (2:05:008) that will last for ever as next year we will race on 4 strokes hahaha. This race I finished 10th, just one second behind the winner.

It has been an incredible weekend and end of season, and the next year I will try to give everything as always!

Finally I would like to thank all the team and staff of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup for his incredible and professional work, it has been an unforgettable experience.

See you in 2013,
