Blog | great races from Philipp in Assen

Hi all,

Last Weekend was the 4th round of the Red Bull Moto GP Rookies Cup in Assen. I knew the track from last year so I was very motivated for the race weekend. On Friday we had one free practice session and two qualifying sessions. In the free practice I had a good feeling and finished 4th. Also in the 1st qualifying was not bad at all. I rode the session alone without slipstream. I finished 5th. It was very good for a qualifying this year. So I was confident for the 2nd qualifying. But it didn’t go well. I couldn’t improve my lap time. As a result of this I dropped back into 11th position.

For the race I wanted to improve my lap time and the position. My start wasn’t good but my first two laps were good. After the 4th lap I led the race for 9 laps. But in the last lap I made a mistake so I finished 2nd. At the beginning I was angry but then I thought: 'Hey Philipp, 2nd place is good, good points.' My first reaction was not good. I think I learnt from this mistake.

In the 2nd race I had a good start but after two laps it got difficult but it was a great battle. I finished 3rd. it was a good result for me.

My summary for this weekend: It was a mixed race weekend with very good and not so good things. My championship lead was taken away from me by Florian Alt. But I will fight 'till the end as hard as I can. The next round is at the Sachsenring, my home track. I will give everything to win races or finish on the podium.

See you
