Blog | Dan Jones riding hard in Jerez then making a change

Hiya everyone,

I have been working hard on improving my riding in the past few months. Here's how I've been getting on.

I had the first round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Jerez. On the first day we had two free practices, these were difficult for me as I was trying to learn the track and also get an understanding of how this bike works around Jerez.

We had one qualifying on the Friday afternoon, my feeling wasn't good. I struggled for pace and ended up in 23rd, this was disappointing but I was determined to work on it.

The first race was difficult, the opening laps were positive but as the race went on I dropped back. We had struggled with this all weekend, my riding style was using the tires too quickly. I ended up in 17th, which was an improvement from 23rd.

In race two I was in the fight for 10th in the opening laps. But as the race went on the same problem occurred, I dropped back as the race went on and finished 16th, only 2 seconds off the points. I will fight harder in Assen, a track I have been to before.

To improve my style I went to Anglesey on a Moriwaki 250, I did over 115 laps over two days. My riding style had changed after these two days.

I raced at Le Mans for round 2 of the Junior World Championship. I battled for 5th but unfortunately crashed out on lap 12.

Thanks to all,
