Blog | Dan Jones quick but unlucky in Germany

Hello everyone,

Since my last update I have been busy with racing. Here's what's been going on:

First of all I had round 4 of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Sachsenring. It was a mixed Friday for me, the two free practices were positive.

On the other hand my qualifying strategy didn't pay off, I targeted the wrong person and found myself in P13. It wasn't what I had hoped from myself but I knew a good start for the races would put me in the fight.

On the Friday night of the Sachsenring MotoGP, myself and Sean Kelly attended the Pole Position Travel opening evening. It was great meeting people who follow us during our time in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. We're both grateful for the support we receive.

In Race 1 I started exactly how I had planned. I was aggressive going in to turn one but still safe at the same time. As I tipped in, I was hit in the rear by another rider and that caused me to not finish race one. The other rider involved admitted his mistake, unfortunately racing can be difficult at times but I kept my head held high for race two.

In Race 2 I struggled to get in to a rhythm, ideally I could have done with those 19 laps I would have had in Race 1. My pace towards the end of the race was very strong, I caught the group for 7th position but I ran out of laps. My focus is now on Austria, it's a track I haven't ridden but I will listen to the advice of Dani and Gustl to insure a positive weekend.

To round off a busy couple of weeks was Thruxton British Superbikes. During the weekend was my 17th birthday, I enjoyed spending it around my old racing friends. There was plenty of bikes and sun to enjoy as well!

Now my focus is on Austria for Round 5 of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

See you all soon,
