Blog | Collin Veijer learning a lot from Aragón 1

Hello everyone,

The first Aragon weekend of the Red Bull Rookies MotoGP Cup double header is done.

I learned a lot, including some things for myself to work on, some points to improve.

The Free Practice and Qualifying on Friday were under fresh conditions, so the instruction was to be careful considering the track conditions.

I managed to improve each session, which in itself worked well but I had hoped for a slightly better starting position.

I was on a very good lap during Qualifying, maybe top 4, but unfortunately I got a track limit penalty and this lap was cancelled. One of the important things to keep an eye on during practice and race. Still 10th position isn't too bad in a rookie year.

Race 1 I had a good start moving up to 5th position, but soon I got a grip warning because I had a big save. This also broke the connection with the group in front of me. A few laps later and after a lot of position changes it went wrong and I crashed with a highsider.

Up to Race 2 on Sunday. The track conditions seemed better because the temperatures were higher than in race 1. I hoped of course for more grip. Again I had a good start, but I was a bit more reserved during the first laps than in Race 1, I guess the crash of Race 1 was still somehow on my mind. I managed to get into a good rhythm, rode a solid race and finishing this race in 9th position was important to learn and take this to the second weekend here in Aragon.

I really like this track and will certainly do my best to stay in contact with the leading group next week, continue to work hard and learn.

During the week we stayed stay here in the 'Aragon bubble'.

Stay safe,
