Rider bio

For the Skinners, racing is a family thing. "I have always been around bikes from a young age. My dad has always had bikes and he used to race at club level in Scotland, I was always in the paddock and so racing felt a natural thing for me to do."

"My mum and dad have played the biggest parts in my career up to now. I have wanted to race for as long as I can remember, my Dad got me a PW50 when I was 3 years old. From there I kept on asking my parents when I could get a mini moto and start racing and finally when I was 6 years old they took me along to a practise session at our local mini moto track and that's where it all started. My Mum and Dad have always been behind me 100%. My Dad has always built and maintained my bikes and given me lots of advice on riding and racing."

For Rory, where he is headed is just as clear as where he came from. "My goal in racing is to become MotoGP World Champion."

He worked hard towards that end in 2014. "I learnt how to change my riding style to suit the Aprilia RS125 Superteen bike, I also had to learn lots of new tracks such as Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Oulton Park, etc. as I had never ridden any of these tracks before. I also had to learn to ride a 4 stroke machine when I was given the chance to wildcard in the Moriwaki 250 Junior Cup series at Brands Hatch and Assen."

"My best race of 2014 was my wildcard ride in the Moriwaki 250 Junior Cup race at Assen. It was my second time on a 4-stroke bike and I had never been to Assen before. I got a really good start and managed to stay in third for the whole race and kept a consistent pace throughout and got my first international podium."

"Another greatr race was in 2013 when I had just turned 12 and I was invited to take part in the last round of the 2013 Dunlop Aprilia Superteens Championship. I had never ridden a Superteen bike before, never ridden at Donington Park before so it was really awesome when I won and became the youngest ever rider to win a Superteen race."

"In 2015 I learned how to ride the Moto3 machines and how to get the best out of them. I also learned lots of new tracks."

Enjoying the Racing Steps Foundation backed Moto3 FTR KTM. in 2015

"My best race from 2015 was the last round of the Rookies Cup at Aragon, the weekend went great and I qualified on pole and got my first podium in Race 1. Race 2 was my highlight of the season, I was with the front group for most of the race but I unfortunately ran off track with 7 laps to go and a gap of 4 seconds opened up."

2015 - Leading Aragon 1

"The best thing about the race was that after I made the mistake I was able to make a comeback and within 3 laps I was back with the group and got my second podium, this was really good for me as it showed me that I had the pace to run at the front."

2015 - Parce fermé after Aragon 2, mum on my right, dad on my left

"In 2016 I learned how important it was to be at your peak physical condition and peak mental condition. After having quite a few big crashes last season I learned how important it was to get back to my previous pace as quickly as possible."

On the way to the podium - Race 2 Assen 2016

"My best race of 2016 was the first race of the final round at Aragon, after running off the track at the end of the first lap and dropping back to last position by over 3 seconds. I was able to work my way up through the field and with 4 laps to go I had bridged the gap to the leaders and I was then battling for the lead. I crossed the line in 3rd place."

Podium trip 2 for 2016 - Race 1 in Aragon

"My expectations of 2017 are to turn all of the negatives that i had in 2016 into positives, I don't feel my final championship position reflected the pace I had throughout the year."

First gig, March 2016

He has his sights set on the example set by his hero Valentino Rossi and he will love the same Grand Prix circuits. "The tracks/corners that excite me the most are fast sweeping sections of track which flow well," affirms Rory who's favourite subjects at school are maths and science. When not racing he enjoys mountain biking and skateboarding.

Some serious Austrian mountain biking with Dad, summer 2016

Off season training March 2016

"Of course I enjoy racing and winning but I also enjoy working with my team to find a good setting for the bike at each track so that I can push harder."
