Coming from South America has not made his career path easy but Steward is undaunted. "My father passed on his hobby to me and it seems that I have always liked motorcycles and racing."
"I like working with the team and making the best out of the bike to try and win, I want to be a champion like my heroes Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez."
Having moved to Spain to help his career he has taken a big step forward. "2015 was a big year for me. Since starting the Spanish championship I learnt so much about riding fast and learnt to do things I would never have imagined I could manage."
"One of my best races of 2015 was at the Valencia Ricardo Tormo circuit in the Spanish Championship. The race was a group of seven riders where I fought the whole race to get leading the group."
At school he enjoys biology and geology and in his free time listening to music and concentrating.
For 2016 he was looking forward to the tracks and the camaraderie of the Rookies Cup. "I am very happy to be sharing a large family as it is in the Red Bull Rookies Cup."
"I like the more technical circuits and I feel much more comfortable on them, it should all be a great experience. My expectation for 2016 is to do everything possible to improve and get to the front and learn enough to win," he said before the start of the season.
A wet Assen in 2016
His first Rookies Cup season saw him finish 17th overall with his best result being 5th in Race 2 at Assen. "That was my best race of the year as I was battling towards the front with other good riders and I had very little experience in the rain."
"Through the year I learent so much, it was all new to me, new bikes, circuits everything," he explained and it was clear he had a lot of catching up to do."
Rookie Life - 2017
"My best race of 2017 was at the end of the year at Aragon where I qualified 6th and was in the first group in the second race, finishing 8th. I learned through the season how to control a situation and how to behave in races, running in large groups," he explained but still his lack of general road racing experience held him back.
Pushing hard - Misano 2017
He moved up to 11th in the overall standings though and unlike 2016 had a number of good finishes, 4th, 5th, 7th and twice 8th.
Pushing too hard - Brno 2017
"I hope that in 2018 I will be in the top 5 in all the races and to be able to get the podium I have been waiting for."
