"My brother is fan of scooter racing, he was two time winner of the Cup of Russia (2006 and 2007). Having been so proud of him, I was always looking for following his example. When I was 7 years old I received an ATV on my birthday. When I turned 9 the motocross school opened in the town, near St. Petersburg, in Pushkin, where I live, I started to ride there."
"I made my first steps of racing career with my brother and people who surrounded me at that time, as well as my dad, my biggest supporter ever, who followed me at all races. Month by month, year by year I gained more experience and soon started to compete."
"2010 I spent with my father around the motocross tracks of Russia and Estonia. Then in 2012 we travelled to motocross tracks all over Europe. But we knew that training in Russia is never enough for us. All the 2013 season we spent in Spain, trying to develop and match the European way of riding. This year was an important one in my career because I took a chance to try myself in Red Bull Rookies Cup selection. Since that time I decided to concentrate riding on an asphalt and I gave myself the aim to develop my skills."
"I was amazed by the MotoGP paddock, with the top-riders, their skills and their speed during the races. The atmosphere at MotoGP is fantastic! So at the end of 2014 I moved to Spain for training there because I knew what I wanted and I had a strong desire to achieve that!"
"2014 was just second my season in road racing, I was already at the World Championship events in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. This was a fantastic feeling for me to be in the paddock of the MotoGP World Championship with its atmosphere." It was a difficult 2014 in the Rookies Cup when he missed three events after being injurred in a non Cup event and could not get into the Rookies Cup points.
Makar's favourite subject at school is physics and when not racing he enjoys cycling. Of course winters can be long in Russia. "I have been skiing in the mountains since I was from 3 years old until today. It's my favourite hobby. I really like it, also riding an ATV, this is one of my favourite things to do in winter. Now I have Yamaha YFZ 450. Also cycling, skiing, jumping on trampolines."
Makar already has ambitions, ultimately to follow his hero Marc Marquez. "Now I am looking to win, it is victories I am after! Firstly try to reach the top in the Red Bull Rookies Cup. After that, participating in Moto3, then Moto2, MotoGP, and of course try to become the World Champion."
The venture into road racing has already supplied him with great memory on track. "I have lots of my favourite races, but one of the best challenge for me was the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Selection event at the end of 2013, even if it was not a race..."
"Another good one was the 2nd round of Cup of Spain in Jerez PreMoto3 2013 on the Moriwaki 250. I had some problems with the bike all weekend, with both suspension and engine. I qualified 18th, not good at all, but there was a good start and then I overtook other riders during the race. On the last lap I took 5th place, but I lost it on the braking before the last corner. I finished 6th, it was an amazing result for me with not the best bike."
"The best so far though was in the Rookies Cup, Silverstone 2015, 2nd race. It was a wet race, the track was full of water and it was still raining! I started from 21st on the grid and I finished 6th. I was able to stay on the bike, to keep my rhythm, to pass many riders one by one, despite terrible vision conditions and the result was my best finish in my Rookies Cup career to that point."
Silverstone is not his favourite track though. "Honestly, I don't have my favourites. But for sure I like tracks with big level changes, such as Sachsenring and Brno! Also I enjoy a lot circuits like Assen, as it is very interesting and has many different types of corners."
"I like riding on the limit, feeling the sliding, aggressive braking. I have learnt a lot from riding Supermoto and Minimotard," explains the Russian Champion in both the Supermoto and Minimotard classes.
2015 - Russian Supermoto Championship
"The 2015 Russian Supermoto and MiniMotard Championships consisted of 7 events on 6 different tracks. I managed to take podiums in all of them and became Champion overall in both categories. It was not an easy experience for me because I had to travel a lot combining both Championships with Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Although it was a good training and I am happy with the result in Russia! In 2016 I will put all my force for European Championships."
2015 - Russian MiniMotard Championship
"I enjoy working with a team, setting a bike, seeing and feeling the improvements, but of course the most satisfaction gives a victory! As it is racing and there is nothing better than to win!"
"The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup team has become a family for me, a professional school with great teachers and coaches. I am thrilled to be a part of it!"
