"My father used to be professional rider and competed in the Moto3 class (RS125) in the World Championship in 1993."
"When I was 9 years old, my father took my brother and I to the local circuit and let me ride a pocket bike just for fun. It was a 40cc engine motorcycle. I was fascinated with controlling and riding on bike instantly and after that I begged my father to buy it. Since that time my curiosity was piqued by motor cycle racing."
"Since then my father has been training me using his knowledge, teaching me what I need and has been leading me to be the best Moto GP rider I can be," says Ayumu for whom his father Shinya Sasaki is still his racing hero along with Casey Stoner."
"Also my mother supports me in speaking English once I became determined to be Moto GP rider. She enrolled me into the International school to study English after I finished primary school and encouraged me to understand that speaking English is necessary for my racing."
"My grandfather is the most understanding of my racing in my family other than my parents. He has supported me and generously helped finance my dream. Although all of my races have been overseas since 2014, he came to watch several times and cheer me on."
"The greatest thing in 2014 was that I took part in the Asia Talent Cup. I also learned a lot of things through the year - how to set my machine, talking with mechanics in English and how to keep manage my strength. Mr. Puig trained me that the last part is the most important thing to be the best rider. Having strong mentality and to persevere is 60% of the potential of rider. Never give up and fighting all the other riders."
2014 was a great season for Ayumu and he remembers one race as a particular favourite. "It was the 6th round at Sepang circuit of Shell Advance Asia Talent Cup. Finally I got the first win in the season with a large winning margin."
"Before was the 5th round at the same Sepang circuit, I was crashed into by the second rider after we passed the 6th of 14 laps and it pushed me off the track. Because the top 5 riders battled for podium and swapped their position every corners. I was disappointed with myself. Then Mr Puig gave me the advice that I didn't have enough concentration with my riding and besides battling with a lot of riders might cause a terrible crash. So give more focus to my riding and believe in myself."
"After the beginning of the 6th race I tried to concentrate solely on my riding and finally I made it to the first win with a four second advantage over second place."
"I really want to compete in higher races and have confidence to compete in higher class.
I assume that the Red Bull Rookies Cup is higher class than I ever tried and also riding on KTM bike increases my skill and gives more experience."
"At the moment I want to get to the podium in all races in the Red Bull Rookies Cup and ultimately be a champion with wins. Personally I'm very competitive and have a passion to race. Also I want to build my ability to continue and I will do anything that I need because I want to be a World Champion."
Ayumu is happy racing anywhere. "Every track I've ever known has been awesome for me and I enjoy all tracks. I've learned that getting used to tracks fast is very important though a year of the Asia Talent Cup. I haven't had experience too much but in my opinion the best track for me is at Sepang circuit in Malaysia. There is a mixture of technical corners and high speed corners. The best corners are the first and seconds corners. There are somewhat difficult aspects to work out but I'm excited when I manage to ride the track well."
"I wholeheartedly love to race and compete with the other riders. Of course working out and creating my special machine with mechanics also makes me happy. But on the other hand my father told me that I won't be satisfied with all my races even if I won the races."
"What is important thing is the process through my races. It gives me satisfaction if I have an ambitious spirit and put in the effort to aim for victory. Then the result speaks for itself. Truly I believe my father."
At school Ayumu enjoys physical exercise and away from school he is a typical teenage racer. "I like istening to music and playing football with my friends. But my most favourite thing is riding motorcycles. I don't mind what sort of bike, dirt or asphalt, motocross bike or road bike. I enjoy it every time."
