Blog | Walid Soppe making a great start at Jerez

Hi everyone,

Last weekend was the first race of the season. Last year I had together with Silverstone my best result of the year in Jerez and I like the track very much. The test in Jerez went also very well so I had high expectations for the weekend.

The qualifying was not really great because I had some little problems. At the end I had to start from 11th position on the grid. First I thought I had ruined it and that it was too difficult to have a good result but after some thinking a knew it was still possible to get the podium.

I went for it and in both races I came in the first group. We had some nice battles and all the passing was very clean. On Saturday I finished fifth but I was penalised because I was too often outside the track and was put one place back in the results.

Race 2 was also a nice race. I was fighting for the podium but a few laps before the end I had to go a bit wide. I ended fourth so no podium but it is my best result in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup so far.

I hope I can fight all races for the podium this year.

The next race is my home race in Assen but before that I have three races in Moto3 Junior World Championship with Dutch Racing Team to begin with Le Mans next week.

Take care,

Walid #13
