Blog | Sean Kelly takes a big step forward in difficult conditions in Brno

Hey everyone!

Last weekend was the fourth round of the 2017 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup! After a 3 week "summer break" it felt great to be back in the paddock!

Getting into the weekend I felt confident to go out and do my job. As I mentioned in the past blog, I've been working hard to get back into the rhythm I started the season with!

Overall the races at Brno were very important! We had a few days riding with mixed conditions and got track time both in the dry and wet. FP1 was in the wet and I instantly had a great feeling, it helped grab some more confidence with the KTM. In FP2 I had some electronic issues that made me lose most of the first dry session, but that didn't create any problems, it just meant we had to push a bit more in the Qualifying!

In the Qualifying session I didn't make a good lap time, that meant I had to start the races from back in P20. I knew I was capable of more, but I was satisfied as I also knew that I was mentally in a stronger state than I was in the past couple of races. I was ready to continue improving and to continue pushing for the top.

Race 1 was in the dry. From P20 I was in a battle for P15. It was a great race experience wise. I ended up in P17 for Race 1. It's not where I should be but I know what I have to do to continue forward! I was confident for a good Race 2 on Sunday.

The second race of the weekend ended up being under the rain! I immediately knew It was my time to push from the first moment and gain as many positions as possible.

My feeling was fantastic. I felt very confident in the wet and I was in a big group the first half of the race. I was able to disconnect from the group with another rider in the last laps and finished the race in P8! I gained 10 positions in the race and lots of experience!

A result like this one was what I needed to get back the confidence that I had lost earlier on.

I'm ready to give my best this weekend at the Red Bull Ring! This is a special weekend for the Rookies Cup! I'll be working hard to grab my first podium!

A huge thank you to the RBRC staff for their amazing support, to my Sponsors for believing in me, to all of my fans for following me, and of course my family for all they do!

See you all soon,
