Blog | Sean Kelly learning big at the first race weekend in Jerez

Hello Everyone!

The first weekend of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup has ended well and on a good note, disregarding the tough start!

Friday was a hard day with two crashes but I have learned from those mistakes! In FP1 I concentrated more on finding a good setup on the bike, although a crash didn't help with my confidence.

FP2 was a positive session with a better feeling and more confidence with the bike, little by little I was getting a good rhythm and results came in that session.

In Qualifying I went out with a group of 5 or 6 riders, where I found myself in a great rhythm and leading the group for some time, although in the finishing laps we started to push more and I went down again.

After both crashes my main goal was to finish Race 1 on Saturday. The result wasn't what I was going for or wanted, but the positive was that I completed my first race.

For Race 2 on Sunday I was much more confident and prepared for a different race. Most of the race I was with a small group of riders but could lead it into the finish, just a position away from points.

A lot has been learned this weekend! I'm happy that I was able to complete both races and improve from one to the other. Now there are 2 months until Assen in which lots of hard work will be taking place!

I want to give a Huge! thanks to all of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup Staff for the amazing work put in all weekend! Special thanks to my parents and all of my supporters for everything as well!

See you all in Assen!
