Blog | Matthias Meggle overcoming problems for a strong finish in Aragon

Hi Everyone!

My first season in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup is over.

The final round in Aragon was not the best weekend for me.

In the first practice I had to learn the track because it was a new one for me. In the second practice unfortunately I had an electric defect, so I had to ride the following Qualifying with the spare bike. It went very bad and I had to start the races from 23rd position.

Race 1: I had a good start in the race and after 4 laps I was already in 15th position. But then another rider was running wide, came back to the racing line, rode into my front and I crashed! I was angry because that crash was definitely avoidable from him.

Race 2: Unluckily a small part of my frame broke off and I had to ride the second race with another spare bike. I had an awful start and was last in the first corners.

Then I overtook some riders but I had problems with my front in the fast corners. But strangely it got better with used tyres. In the last laps I found a good rhythm and closed the gap to the group in front of me which was fighting for 14th position.

Finally I could get 15th and take a point, but for sure that was not the result I expected before the race.

A huge thanks goes to the whole Rookies Cup staff and all the partners for their great support during the whole season!

I am very happy that I am selected to take part in the 2017 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup!

In the next months I will work hard to come back very strong next year. For sure I will keep you updated here in my blogs.

See you,
