Last weekend was the second round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in Assen.
I like the track and I was really motivated to do a good result there. In the first free practice I was in 7th position. It was difficult for all riders because the wind was very strong.
In the second free practice I tried to improve the bike and we changed something on the setup. But the bike felt very unstable and I had many problems in this session, so I was just P14.
In the qualifying I was in a fast group and I had a really good feeling. I was really happy with the 3rd position because it was my first time to start from the front row in the Rookies Cup.
In the first race I had a good start and after the first corner I was leading. When Can Öncü passed me I tried to follow him but I made a mistake and then he was gone.
I was fighting in a big group for P2 but in the last lap I collided with another rider and I lost too much time to catch the group before the last corner. So it was just P8 and I wasn't happy with this.
In the second race I had a good start again and again I was leading. We went out with rain tyres but the track was completely dry. I knew this condition from Brno last year and I thought it will be better to save the tyres for the last few laps.
So I wasn't pushing hard and I tried to follow the group. When it was 5 laps to go many riders passed me and I knew I have to do something to finish on the podium.
I started my comeback and I overtook many riders again. The last two laps it started to rain heavily and in the last lap I was in 3rd position. In the last chicane the other german rider Matthias Meggle tried to past me on the brakes but he crashed.
I didn't want to collide with him so I went in the corner earlier but because of that I crashed to. I could pick up the bike quickly and I finished on P14 but I was really disappointed. It is my second year in the Red Bull Rookies Cup but I am still learning many new things.
There are also things I have to improve and I try to make it better next time. Next weekend is my home race on the Sachsenring and there I will fight again for the podium. I like the track and the support of the home crowd was great all the years.
My championship position is P13 and it's not what I wanted to be, so I try to concentrate myself on every single race to make the best and I try to go more risk to get better results.
See you on the Sachsenring,
