Blog | Dan Jones riding well in Mugello, getting board before Assen

Hello everyone,

Since my last update I competed in round 2 of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Mugello. Also since being home I've been very busy, here's what I've been up to:

Free Practice 1 at Mugello was a good start to the weekend for me. The session was all about learning the beautiful Mugello Circuit. I felt I made the most of the session and understood what was needed for a good race here.

Free Practice 2 wasn't as productive for me, I lost the front at turn 10 at the start of the session and that ruled me out of FP2. The crash was my fault as I tried new things and pushed the limit too much. I'm sorry to my team and I'd like to thank them for trying their hardest to get me back out for the end of FP2.

After missing FP2 I wasn't sure where my set up stood, I hadn't pushed to the times that was expected so I had no idea if my bike would work. I ended the Qualifying Session in P12 and only 1 second off pole position. I was pleased with this result because I knew that I would be in the front group for the race.

The race was one of my favourite races since being with the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. My lap time was the 4th fastest of the race and we were under the previous lap record. I made a mistake halfway through the race which made me lose the front group. I pushed until the chequered flag but couldn't catch them, even still I'm very happy with my progress during the weekend.

After Mugello I visited Circuit de la Ribera for 4 days, where I trained on my Husqvarna 450. I worked on my long runs, I was doing 40 minute sessions to make sure I wouldn't tire at the later stages of the races. It was hard work but I hope it will pay off at Assen.

To finish off my preparation for Assen, I helped my brother out at the Anglesey Circuit during the Wirral 100 Motors Club meeting. It was a good weekend of racing, I even got involved with a little bit of pit boarding.

I'm ready and excited for Assen,
See you there,
Dan Jones
