Blog | Dan Jones getting into the Cup groove at Misano

Hello everyone,

In the past few weeks I've really enjoyed racing. So here's what's been going on:

After the Austrian GP I had Round 6 of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Misano. Because of an injury in 2017 I hadn't ridden the track, but I was still confident I could have a good result.

Friday was very positive, in the Free Practices I focused on nothing but learning and understanding. It was important not to look at position but my feeling on the bike at this track. And with this I had the best feeling in the bike and myself since starting the 2018 season.

The way I dealt with the Free Practices meant I was prepared for qualifying. My pace was strong, ending the session in P7 and only 0.7 off pole position. This result is my highest grid position during my time at the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup.

For the race I had a feeling that I hadn't felt for a long time, I was confident in my own ability to be able to run with the leaders. And that is exactly what I did, finishing in P9 and only 1.5 seconds off the win. I'm over the moon with my improvements throughout the season and I'm getting closer and closer to a podium.

For a change of scenery, the weekend after Misano I decided to ride at the Oulton Park British Superbikes. I was riding for SymCirrus on an ex Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup KTM.

The bike wasn't the most competitive but I managed to come away with a podium, and that's something I haven't done in a long time. It was a crazy but fun weekend.

Now the focus is on the final round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Aragon.

I'm ready.
